Walking Gait Mechanics & Analysis - 3 CPD
Aim: Learn the mechanics of gait and how to setup and analyse walking gait to enhance your skills.
Overview: This professional development course brings together current knowledge and practices aimed to assist human movement professionals working with clients across a range of situations. Walking is a complex human movement and understanding how to capture and analysis gait can assist in your skills in exercise prescription to improve client mobility and their quality of life.
Intended learning outcomes:
Analyse the current concepts on why we walk the way we do
Describe the mechanics of the typical gait pattern
Describe and evaluate methods to capturing walking gait
Describe the major influences on walking gait
Review and evaluate non-typical walking gait patterns

Aim: Develop the clinical reasoning, assessment, and exercise prescription skills of ESSA professionals for managing foot and ankle dysfunction. The workshop integrates biomechanics, functional anatomy, and load-based rehabilitation to support evidence-informed practice.
Overview: This 5-hour professional development workshop includes a 1-hour online pre-learning module and a 4-hour face-to-face practical session focused on translating theory into clinical application.
Participants will:
Learn a structured foot and ankle assessment framework
Apply clinical reasoning to common conditions (plantar fasciopathy, Achilles tendinopathy, ankle sprain, pronation, hallux valgus)
Develop practical exercise prescription strategies
Use case-based learning to link assessment findings to intervention
The course uses a hybrid format combining online preparation with hands-on practical learning to support immediate clinical application.
Intended learning outcomes:
Participants will be able to:
Explain key foot and ankle anatomy and biomechanics
Conduct structured, evidence-informed assessments
Interpret findings to identify capacity, control, and load deficits
Identify common foot and ankle conditions
Prescribe targeted, progressive exercise interventions
Apply clinical reasoning within ESSA scope of practice
Duration: 5 hrs (1 hr online pre-workshop module and 4 hrs in-person workshop)
